SOCIAL SERVICES

BY APPOINTMENT

In trying to meet the needs of those facing financial hardship, The Salvation Army on Grand Bahama attempts to determine how best to help its clients. During the interview process we look at how clients can first help themselves and when necessary, refer them to other resources on the island. If needed, clients are assisted with food items and if eligible, can again be assisted quarterly if their situation is unchanged after expressing their statement of need. A Grand Bahama Power bill or receipt and IDs for all members of the household are needed.

HOMELESS SERVICES

TUE – FRI (10:30 AM – 12 PM)

Homeless individuals are serviced Tuesday – Friday from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. They are given something to eat/drink along with hygiene items for their use. Restrooms and showers are available. Individuals are also assisted with a change of clothing when needed.

CLOTHING DISTRIBUTION

ASSIGNED DAY OF MONTH

On an assigned day of each month, (usually the 1st Wednesday of the month), eligible clients who received a clothing voucher during the preceding month may use a voucher to select clothing items for their household. We encourage clients to take only what they can use so that others may also benefit from this distribution. Distribution times are between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a global community-based program designed to help people who are struggling with problematic use of alcohol to remain sober with the support of their peers through meetings and discussions related to addiction. These men and women meet at The Salvation Army Freeport Corps every Mondays and Thursdays between 7 PM – 8 PM to share their experiences with each other. Join them if needed.

Emergency Disaster Services (EDS)

Wherever The Salvation Army is to be found, its staff and volunteers will always play an active role in providing relief to survivors and often first responders during disasters. We understand that resources are limited on Grand Bahama Island, but we work closely with foreign agencies to import necessary goods immediately following catastrophic occurrences. Our organization has added the Emotional & Spiritual Care function within the Incident Command (IC) structure. Email us if you are interested in becoming a Salvation Army EDS Volunteer.

Thrift Store TUE – SAT (10 AM – 4 PM)

Our thrift store is opened Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Slightly used clothing and household items are resold to support our programs and services you read about on this website. We thank our donors, who through their donations, make it possible for us to offer these services free to our clients. Their support is invaluable to our mission.
